The world’s first ever SUV rightly named Willys Station Wagon was designed by
Jeep and now 70 years later it has made its way into the Indian roads with the
Jeep – Compass. The 4 wheel drive houses Fiat’s 2.0 litre Multijet 2 diesel. It can
churn 170hp in a 6 manual drive. The Compass irrespective of its size can cruise
comfortably at speeds ranging at 120kph. It does not sacrifice on safety as it
consists of a four-channel ABS and ESP; not to mention a Panic Brake Assist,
Hydraulic Booster Failure Compensation, Electronic Roll Mitigation Electronic
Brake Pre-fill and six airbags The inner designs of the vehicle have no unique
surprises. It has a small touch screen dashboard and the occasional plastic
incorporations. Space on the inside is huge, with plenty of leg- and shoulder-
room, and the front seats are extremely comfortable and the bench at the rear
has been changed for Indian audience. There also exists a lot more thigh support
due to the longer squab and the seat height is just right with the backrest a bit
more vertical in posture.
